A trio of pleats accents the empire bodice and modest V neckline. Lace and beadwork cover the bodice and short cap sleeves. The A-line skirt is simple and extends into the semi-cathedral train that is gathered to create soft drapes.

Gloria Dress 2010

I was so pleased with last year's recipient of the Gloria Dress that I seriously considered working with the same high school to find another deserving junior or senior for this award. However, after I became aware of Jeanie's story, I knew she would be a fitting recipient of the Gloria Dress. Jeanie and her family have faced a difficult year but Jeanie continues to smile and be a good example for her family and her peers. Here is her story, in her own words:I am truly thankful that The Yellow Rose chose me for this scholarship. I am grateful to have heard the inspiring story of Mrs. Kilgore's sister, who overcame her own tribulations and continued even when the going got tough. Hearing Gloria's story made me reminisce on this past year and the very hard experiences I've gone through with my youngest brother. Gloria's story has shown me that it's possible to succeed at anything when you set your mind and heart to it.

My youngest sibling, Jason, almost died last year in a pool accident. He fell into the water when no one else was looking. My family and I found him face down in the water. We pulled him out and because I had recently learned CPR at my church's girls camp, I tried to perform it on Jason to the best of my abilities. Thankfully I managed to get a slight pulse back. Jason was taken to the hospital where he was in a coma for a few weeks. It took some time and many prayers, but he eventually recovered fully. This has been one of the hardest experiences of my life and it has reinforced my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ immensely. I thank my Heavenly Father for the tremendous miracle that he allowed in not only my family’s life, but the lives of many others.

I come from a modest Honduran family and I am grateful for the blessing of living in this country and the many opportunities I have for gaining an education. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I’m involved in various extracurricular activities such as playing soccer for the Junior Varsity team at South Gwinnett High School. This past soccer season I received the Coach’s award for being the player who most exhibited a positive attitude and always pushed to do her best. I’m also in Beta Club and S.L.E.D (Student Leadership Ethics Development) and these clubs have taught me a lot about how to be a leader and how to make the community a better place. In addition to my academic classes, I also attend early-morning church seminary and it is my favorite part of the day. I love being able to start off my day with a spiritual uplift. I’ve been taught by my parents that having an education is extremely important and I work hard to achieve my academic goals. After I graduate high school I hope to continue my education at Brigham Young University.

A "Bliss" ful Time

I have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the spring issue of Bliss Magazine because I knew that one of my bridal customers was going to be featured. Not only had I spoken with my customer, Becca, about submitting her engagement story and bridal photos, but I had also been coordinating with the editor of Bliss Magazine.

While I knew I would be excited to see my client and my dress in print, I did not anticipate how completely and totally thrilled I've been to actually see the pictures in the magazine. I have not stopped smiling. I immediately started calling friends and family and told each of them how fantastic it felt to see one of my customers in a stunning modest gown from the Yellow Rose.

Both Becca and the dress are gorgeous.

Northeast Georgia Bridal Show - March 20, 2010

Planning a wedding can be stressful. Whether deciding between dresses, reception sites, food, invitations, or cakes, it can be mentally exhausting to plan all the minute details that a wedding entails. For those brides-to-be who are looking for a helping hand, there is one event in which attendance is a must: the Northeast Georgia Bridal Show. On Saturday, March 20th, 201o the Georgia Mountain Center in Gainesville, Georgia will host the bridal show from noon until 5 p.m. Wedding services will include wedding planners, formal wear, reception sites, honeymoon travel and everything else to help brides plan their very special day.

I am particularly excited because The Yellow Rose will be providing the dresses for the fashion show. Stephanie, coordinator for the Northeast Georgia Bridal Show, contacted me about providing dresses because she wants brides to know that there are modest options for a bride's wedding dress. This will be a great opportunity for me to not only showcase my gowns, but also to allow more people to see that a modest wedding gown can be both elegant and fashionable. Customer Appreciation

While driving the other day I noticed a sign outside a particular business, "Thanks for a record year." As I thought about that sign, I thought about how that business really appreciates their customers. In turn, I thought about how I needed to appreciate my customers because I think my customers are the greatest. Being in the retail business, I know the value of having satisfied customers and how important they are for a business to be successful. I have had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people through The Yellow Rose. I cannot express the excitement and joy that I feel when I see a beautiful woman in a modest gown. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to promote modesty in a stylish and fashionable way. I applaud all of you women who have come to The Yellow Rose looking for a modest dress. I know some of you have driven several hours and I am very appreciative.

I look forward to 2010 and to meeting more women who share my passion for modesty.

Doing What I Love

I opened The Yellow Rose because I wanted women to have an option when it came to choosing a bridal or formal gown. I cannot count the number of times I heard women from various walks of life and in differing circumstance say how difficult it was to find a modest gown. I've had several different jobs over the course of my lifetime. And while I appreciated the income those jobs provided, I definitely felt no love for those particular jobs.

So when I saw an opportunity to start my own business and at the same time provide an invaluable service to women who desired modest dresses, I was excited.

But what I didn't count on was how simply

and quickly I fell in love with my "job". I love helping young ladies scour through my inventory looking for something that is just right. I love seeing their excitement when they know that they have found THE dress. I love it that when a customer comes into my shop, she is shopping for a dress for a happy occasion.

And the satisfaction I receive when my customers tell me how much they appreciate my store? Beyond compare. When they tell me they want me to be successful because there is a great need for a store like mine? Priceless. That's how I view doing what I love and loving what I do: Priceless beyond

Modesty is Multi-Cultural

During The Yellow Rose's year and a half tenure, one of the most poignant lessons I've learned is that the desire to dress modesty crosses cultures and countires alike. I think this is a great thing!

For example, when I started The Yellow Rose, I admit I thought I was targeting a specific group of women. To my delight, I have found that there are women from amazingly different backgrounds who share at least one thing in common: they prefer to wear modest dresses. These women cherish modesty and are so grateful that there is a shop near them that offers gowns with sleeves.

Additionally, I was recently looking at my blog to see how many visitors I have had and was amazed at the number of different countries that appear on mysite meter. I have had visitors from Romania, Japan, the Phillipines, Canada, Austrialia, Ireland, India, and New Zealand, to name a few. Even though The Yellow Rose physically makes it's home in Lilburn, Georgia, I'm thrilled to remind my international readers at large that in this day in age of computers, internet and online shopping your next gorgeous, modest dress is only a mouse click

away, because I can ship anywhere in this world.

I am happy to know that in a small way, I am giving women both in my own neighborhood as well as around the world a modest option when it comes to selecting a bridal or formal gown. Happy Shopping!
